Microphone or camera not working in a call
Calls on Omadle run in your browser, so your browser decides whether Omadle can use your microphone and camera. If a call won't start, nobody can hear you or your camera stays dark, the cause is usually a permission, another app or a device setting. Here's what to check.
What Omadle asks for, and when
Omadle uses your microphone only while you're in a call, and your camera only when you turn it on. Your browser may ask to use your microphone when you start, answer or join a call; allow it, or the call can't start. It may ask to use your camera when your camera first turns on in a call; allow it, or video can't start. Omadle may also ask "Turn your camera on?" before your camera first goes on. You can change these at any time in your browser's settings.
If you see Microphone blocked or Camera blocked
These messages mean your browser said no, usually because Block was chosen on its prompt. Allow access for this site in your browser's settings, then try again; until then, your browser won't ask. The steps below show where that setting is.
Allowing access on a computer
- Chrome and Edge: click View site information at the left of the address bar, turn on Microphone and Camera (or open Site settings and set them to Allow), then reload the page.
- Firefox: click the permissions icon in the address bar, click the X next to Blocked, then reload the page and allow access when Firefox asks.
- Safari on a Mac: open Safari, then Settings, then Websites. Choose Microphone or Camera, and set Omadle's site to Allow.
If your browser already allows access and it still doesn't work, your computer may be blocking the browser. On a Mac, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Microphone or Camera, and turn on your browser (Chrome, Edge or Firefox). On Windows, open Settings, then Privacy & security, then Microphone or Camera, and turn on Microphone access or Camera access and Let desktop apps access your microphone or camera.
Allowing access on a phone or tablet
- Chrome on Android: tap View site information at the left of the address bar, then Permissions, and turn on Microphone and Camera. If they're still blocked, open your phone's Settings, then Apps, then Chrome, then Permissions, and allow Microphone and Camera.
- Safari on iPhone and iPad: tap the page menu button at the left of the address bar, choose Website Settings, and set Microphone and Camera to Ask or Allow.
- Other browsers on iPhone and iPad: open the Settings app, then Privacy & Security, then Microphone or Camera, and turn on your browser.
Android 12 and later also have camera and microphone access tiles in Quick Settings; make sure they're on. Reload Omadle after changing a setting.
Another app is using it
On some devices, a camera works for only one app at a time. If you see "No camera found", check that it's connected and not in use by another app, such as another video call app. If your camera stops mid-call, Omadle says "Camera stopped": check that it's connected and allowed, then turn it on again; the call goes on. If a call shows "Couldn't start audio on this device.", check that a microphone is connected, close other apps that use it and try again.
Headphones and Bluetooth
Omadle uses the microphone and camera your device chooses by default. With headphones or a Bluetooth headset, check in your device's sound settings that it's chosen for both input and output. If your headset has its own mute switch, make sure it's off.
Check the call's own controls
If others can't hear you, look at the Mute button in the call bar: when you're muted, its label reads Unmute. If nobody can see you, check that your camera is on: the camera button should read Turn camera off. More in our audio calls guide.
When video isn't available
If the video and camera buttons look faded, video is temporarily unavailable or your browser can't do video; our video calls guide explains more.
Supported browsers
Calls work in the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on computers, in Chrome and Firefox on Android, and in any browser on iPhone and iPad. If your browser is out of date, update it and try again.
