Video calls and screen sharing on Omadle
Any call on Omadle, one-on-one or group, can include video. Start one with the video button at the top of a chat, or begin a normal call: anyone in it can turn their camera on whenever they like. Nobody's camera is ever on unless they choose it.
Turning your camera on
To start a call with your camera on, tap the video button at the top of a chat, next to the phone button (in a group, while no call is on there): it starts the call, and your camera turns on once the call connects, in a one-on-one chat once they answer. During a call, tap the camera button in the bar at the top of the screen, next to Mute. Your browser may ask to use your camera; allow it, or video can't start. Tap the button again to turn your camera off, and the call goes on as voice. On a phone, Switch camera on your own picture changes between the front and back camera.
Sharing your screen
On a computer, the button next to the camera shares your screen. Your browser asks which window or tab to share, and some browsers let you include a tab's sound. One person can share at a time. To stop, tap the button again or use your browser's own Stop sharing.
Seeing others' video
When someone turns their camera on, their picture appears in the call bar, blurred until you tap View video. Nobody is told whether you looked. Stop their video stops their picture while you still hear them, and Show again brings it back. Hide video folds the pictures away when you want more of the screen.
Video data saver
With Video data saver on, others' video doesn't load until you tap Load video, so a call uses much less mobile data. On phones it's on by default in group calls; in one-on-one calls and on computers it's off. You can change it in Edit profile, and Load all video in the call's video section shows everyone's video at once.
When video isn't available
If your connection gets weak, your camera pauses with a "Paused: weak connection" note while your voice carries on, and it comes back when the signal improves. If someone else's picture freezes, it shows "Video paused". Video is sometimes temporarily unavailable: then the video and camera buttons look faded, and tapping one shows "Video is temporarily unavailable". If video becomes unavailable during a call that uses video, the call ends, and you can call again with voice only for now. If your browser can't do video, the video and camera buttons say so; updating your browser usually helps.
Privacy and safety
Only the people in the call can see your video. Turning your camera on is always your choice, and anything on camera or on your screen can be captured by anyone in the call, so check what's behind you and what's on your screen before sharing. If someone crosses a line, report them from the call's message in your chat, or block them to end the call at once (in a group call, you leave it). Our audio calls guide covers starting, answering and the rest of calls.
