An alternative to random video chat
Looking for an alternative to random video chat, or a way to talk to strangers on your own terms? Omadle is a free, anonymous way to meet people worldwide: text chat, audio and video calls, one-on-one or in groups. Instead of being paired with someone at random, you see who's online and choose who to talk to. Here's how that works, and the tools that keep you in control.
How it differs from random pairing
On a random chat site, you're usually paired with a stranger you didn't pick, often on camera right away. Omadle works the other way around: nobody is paired with you, and a conversation starts when you choose, for example by tapping someone in the lobby, or when someone messages you. It opens as a text chat, and whether it ever becomes a call, with or without cameras, is up to the people in it.
You choose who you talk to
The lobby lists everyone currently online, people near you first: your city, then your region, then your country. Tap anyone in the list to open a one-on-one chat right away. Filters narrow the list by country, gender and age range, and our guide to making friends and filtering the lobby covers what to do once you've found someone worth talking to again.
Text first, calls by request
In a one-on-one chat, you can send text and emojis from the start, but nobody can send you a photo or a link, or call you, until you've messaged them, been in a group chat with them, or you're friends. A call is a request the other person can accept or decline, and you can hang up at any moment. Nobody's camera is ever on unless they choose it, and anything on camera or on your screen can be captured by anyone in the call. Our video calls guide covers turning your camera on and sharing your screen.
Photos and video stay blurred until you choose
Photos shared in chats, and others' cameras and shared screens, stay blurred until you choose to view them. A photo you receive has a View photo button, and someone's video has View video; nobody is told whether you looked at their video. During a call, Stop their video stops their picture while you still hear them.
Block, report and hide
- Blocking someone is instant and silent: they can no longer message you or add you to group chats, you won't see them in the lobby, and they aren't told. It also stops their call requests and ends any call with them straight away (in a group call, you leave it).
- Reporting someone sends a report to moderators, who review reports and act on them under our Terms of Service. If someone is abusive, do both: block them so it stops immediately, and report them so the account doesn't just move on to someone else.
- Appear offline hides your online status everywhere others look for it, so you can browse the lobby quietly.
- Turning off "Allow call requests" in Edit profile, or tapping Turn off all call requests on any request, stops call requests from everyone.
- Turning off "Show my region and city" leaves only your country as your location.
Our reporting and moderation guide explains what happens after you report someone, and the presence guide covers what Appear offline hides and what it doesn't.
18+ only, no account needed
Omadle is strictly for adults aged 18 and older, and you must confirm you're 18 or older before you can chat or call. There's no account to create: pick a username and tap Start chatting. Guests need no email or password, and you can sign in with Google at any time to keep your username. It's free, with no subscriptions, hidden fees, or premium tiers. Our guide to how anonymous chat works covers what others can see about you.
Your judgment still matters
These tools put you in control, but they don't replace your own judgment. Don't share personal information with strangers, and slow down if someone you've just met asks to move to another app. Our safety guide covers the habits that make the biggest difference.
