How reporting and moderation work
Two layers of protection
Moderation on Omadle works on two levels. Messages are automatically screened for things like abusive language and attempts to share personal contact details, catching some problems before they escalate. The layer that matters most, though, is you: reports put a real decision in front of a human moderator, and are the most reliable way to make sure something specific actually gets addressed. Blocking someone stops them from reaching you straight away.
What filing a report does
Reporting a user or a specific message opens a short form asking for a reason. Here's what each one covers:
- Harassment or bullying:
- Targeted insults, threats, or repeated unwanted contact
- Spam:
- Advertising, repeated link-dropping, or bot-like behavior
- Impersonation:
- Pretending to be someone else, including another Omadle user
- Self-harm or suicide:
- Content suggesting someone is at risk of harming themselves
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM):
- Any sexual content involving minors
- Other:
- Anything that doesn't fit the categories above but still needs a moderator's attention
To report someone you had a call with, use Report on the call's message in your chat with them.
Serious violations can lead to an account being suspended or banned.
Reporting and blocking solve different problems
Blocking is about your own experience. It's instant, private, and stops one person from reaching you again. Reporting is about the platform as a whole: it puts the behavior in front of a moderator who can act on the account itself, which blocking alone never does. If someone is abusive, do both. Block them so it stops immediately, and report them so the account doesn't just move on to someone else. Our safety guide has more on when to reach for each.
Neither one notifies the other person
There's no confrontation to have and no explanation owed. Blocking and reporting are both quiet by design, so you're never stuck weighing "is this worth the awkwardness" against your own safety, and the person you reported has no way to retaliate through the app once you've blocked them too.
