Notifications and sounds on Omadle
Omadle lets you know when something happens: a sound for a new message, a ring for a call request, and the bell at the top of the lobby for everything else. Here's what each one covers, how to turn sounds on or off, and what to check if a message arrived without a sound.
What you get notified about
You get a notification when:
- Someone sends you a friend request or accepts yours
- Someone invites you to a group, or answers your group invite
- Someone joins one of your groups with your invite link
- Someone removes you from a group
- Someone sends you a call request (it shows while it's waiting)
Announcements from Omadle show in your notifications too, and so does a reminder to confirm your age if it's needed.
The bell and unread counts
Tap the bell at the top of the lobby, next to the Omadle name, to view your notifications. Unread notifications show a badge count on the bell. You can mark a notification as read, tap Mark all read, or delete one. Notifications are saved, so you'll see them even if you were offline when they happened. To stop group invites, turn off "Allow group invites" in Edit profile.
Your chats work the same way: a chat or group with unread messages shows how many in your list of conversations, and while you have unread messages, the browser tab's title shows the count too, such as (2) Omadle.
Sound notifications
You'll hear a notification sound when you receive a new message, a short chime for a new notification, and a ring while someone's call request to you is waiting for an answer. To turn sounds on or off, tap the speaker button above the lobby's list of people online (its label reads Mute notifications or Unmute notifications).
Call requests and rings
An incoming call request shows up as a message in your chat with that person and in your notifications, and it rings until you answer or it expires (if your sounds are on). It expires after 20 seconds if you don't answer. Anywhere else in the app, a small strip at the top shows it too, with Accept, Decline and a Dismiss button that also stops the ring. When someone starts a call in one of your group chats, everyone in the group sees a message about it, with a short ring.
To stop call requests altogether, open Edit profile and turn off "Allow call requests". See the audio calls guide for more.
Why didn't I hear a message?
If a message arrived without a sound, check these:
- Omadle's sounds are on: the speaker button above the lobby's list of people online should say Mute notifications.
- Omadle is open in your browser: its sounds play while the page is open.
- Your device isn't muted or on silent, and its volume is up.
- The browser tab isn't muted.
- You've tapped or typed somewhere in Omadle since opening it: browsers don't let a page play sound until you do.
- On a phone, your screen is on and Omadle is in front: browsers can pause a page's audio while your screen is locked or you're in another app.
Even without a sound, nothing is lost: the unread count shows in your conversations, and your notifications wait for you under the bell.
